iXP Assesses Communications Center Needs for Paradise Valley, AZ

Situation

The Paradise Valley Police Department (PVPD) has experienced a continuing expansion of technologies required to operate their Communications Center, which had begun to outgrow the radio system, available space and infrastructure. As such, reinvestments in facilities and technologies needed to be evaluated and prioritized.

Solution

PVPD engaged iXP to assess the current radio system, Communications Center, its public safety technology, and associated space and infrastructure considerations. iXP worked to evaluate:

• The adequacy of the current Communications Center space and square footage
• The age and configurations of public safety systems in the Communications Center
• The space and configuration of the equipment and electrical rooms
• Electrical Power systems supporting the Communication Center technologies
• Voice communications and associated radio control systems, including the evaluation of a options of participating in a regional 800MHz trunked system, obtaining new frequencies and building a stand alone system with regional interoperability;
• Review of current inter-governmental agreements; and regional plans
• Communications Center console furniture space, equipment layout, ease of use, ergonomics etc.
• Workload analysis of the Tele-communicators in the Center

Results

iXP provided an assessment report with findings and recommendations regarding changes and improvements to the operations, technologies, and facility. Additionally, iXP provided budgetary cost estimates associated with the recommended technology changes and facility remodel and reconfiguration changes. iXP also provided recommendations on a phased approach to implementing the various facility and technology changes, and provided project management services for the remodel of the Communications Center and the upgrade of a number of the technology systems.
